ALT FOR DAMERNE
Multiethnic women's association. Based in Bispehaven, Aarhus West, Denmark

Alt for Damerne (Everything for the Ladies) works to break the at times isolated existence of newly arrived immigrant women in Denmark. The association organizes various events and gatherings for women, for instance morning gymnastics with children, a women's discotheque, film nights, and various festive evenings where the women cook and get to know each other. Alt for Damerne is struggling to become officially recognized as an integration association, whose work – as opposed to other, larger associations – unfolds in the private sphere. In that way, the association is able to address newly arrived women at a local level long before they are introduced to the culture of Danish association life.

Contribution: Alt for Damerne participates with “The Roses from Bispehaven,” a project taking place on several occasions. On Saturday, October 16 and Saturday, October 23, 2004, from 3 – 7 pm, they will serve food in the Café of Station 1: The Equestrian Hall, Aarhus. The profit will be applied towards the establishment of the project “Bicycle School for Women in Bispehaven.”
