RAMANAN BALASUBRAMANIAM
Born in Sri Lanka. Lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark
 
I am 30 years old and a Tamil from Sri Lanka. I have lived in Denmark since 1987. I have studied Political Science at the University of Copenhagen and am currently finishing my dissertation. I have worked as a consultant and project assistant on integration projects addressing ethnic minority youth in Denmark. Furthermore, I have worked as a Research Assistant on radio and TV documentaries for DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation) on women and youth in developing countries. As a teacher and lecturer, I have experience from teaching at seminars and folk high schools on issues like ethnic marginalization, culture clashes, generational conflicts, and sexuality among ethnic minority youth in Denmark. I am a member of the Danish Tamil Youth Association, Copenhagen, and co-founder of the magazine Brobyggeren (The Bridge Builder), which addresses young Tamils in Denmark. 
 
Contribution: Participates in the youth hearing “What Would You Do If You Became Minister of Integration?” on Saturday, October 23, 2004, from 3 – 7 pm in Station 1: The Equestrian Hall, Aarhus.
