Blank Rover Visual Project is a design group initiated by practitioners of graphic design in Yogyakarta. In addition to taking on design assignments, the group publishes the bimonthly magazine Blank! Magazine. The magazine should be seen as a response to the rapid development of graphic design in Indonesia, and the first edition was launched in Yogyakarta on April 21, 2002. We call ourselves Blank because we believe that from the very beginning, we are all blank like an empty form and that everyone could fill those empty spaces with their creative energy. Blank is a playground that invites people to play and have some fun. And last but not least, Blank refers to the condition one finds oneself in after getting punched by a huge fist, i.e. knockout. As a graphic design magazine, Blank! Magazine presents a discourse of ideas and information on phenomena in the world of creative art as it is developing in contemporary culture. The existence of Blank! Magazine is expected to become a reference, which stimulates and inspires contemporary and future generations of creative artists in graphic design. Blank Rover Visual Project envisages that in the future, the magazine will become a parameter for the perspective and development of graphic design in Indonesia.
